The Washington Wizards have traded veteran forward Kelly Olynyk to the San Antonio Spurs, according to reports from ESPN’s Shams Charania. This move comes just days after Olynyk was acquired by Washington in a separate deal.
In exchange for Olynyk, the Spurs are sending guards Malaki Branham and Blake Wesley, along with a 2026 second-round draft pick (reportedly the least favorable among picks owned by Dallas, Philadelphia, or Oklahoma City) to the Wizards.
This marks Olynyk’s fourth team in just the past three seasons and his eighth team since the start of the 2020-21 campaign. He was officially traded to the Wizards from the New Orleans Pelicans on Sunday, meaning his tenure in Washington lasted barely 48 hours. Olynyk, 33, averaged 8.7 points and 4.7 rebounds in 44 games last season but ended the year with heel surgery.
The well-traveled big man, who began his career with Boston and had stints in Miami, Houston, Detroit, Utah, Toronto, and New Orleans, now seeks stability in San Antonio. While the Spurs have depth at power forward (Harrison Barnes, Keldon Johnson, Jeremy Sochan), Olynyk’s experience and floor-spacing ability could earn him minutes on the young roster. His arrival boosts San Antonio’s push to return to playoff contention – a stage Olynyk hasn’t reached since 2020.
